What we’ve been doing….

Sessions in March
We've had some great sessions in March. The advent of spring and some slightly better weather has seen up to 70 people attending on Fridays. Our community lunches have been incredibly popular.
Spring sowing and planting
Spring sowing and planting has started. We've started carrots, beetroot, flowers, salads herbs and more. We've also invested in some passion fruit and kiwi plants. in 5 years or so people of Gracemount will be able to pick their own fruit from those plants.
New beds
Work is progressing again at the garden by Gracemount Medical practice. We've started to create new beds for produce and flowers and we've built a shed on the site to store tools. It's starting to feel like a garden that people can interact with. We're going to meet with the medical practice soon to develop ways to open it up to more people, just in time for the growing season.
REHIS courses
We've had over 30 people achieve REHIS certified training courses.
Trustees for SCVO
Trustees are attending the SCVO Gathering - a great opportunity for learning.
Youth groups
Our youth groups are going from strength to strength with great participation (despite the weather) and excellent feedback.
Regular sessions
Our regular sessions - school groups, community meals, events, youth groups and training sessions have been very well attended. Watch our social media (Facebook and Instagram) for regular updates.
Training for adults
Kirsten has started a new series of training sessions for adults on Wednesday mornings. They have went well and we are going to recruit new participants for a second series. Email contact@transitionedinburghsouth.org.uk to register your interest in taking part. As well as a chance to gain some cooking skills they are an excellent place to meet people from your community.
New projects opportunity
We have two major projects in development - The Gracemount Stables renovation and the development of the community farm. These kind of projects take time at first, with lots of planning, consultations and paper-work but the end result will be two amazing community run projects in South Edinburgh. Get in touch if you'd like to know more or if you'd like to be involved.
Creative micro grants

We’re offering small grants of £100 to £500 to people in Gracemount and the surrounding areas to bring creative ideas to life. This could be anything:

1. Art, music, performance
2. Growing, food, making things
3. Storytelling, workshops, events
4. Something completely your own

If you’ve got an idea and just need a bit of support to get it off the ground, this is for you. What’s the deal? We’ll give you a small grant to make your idea happen. In return, we ask that you share what you create at a Transition Edinburgh South event. That could be a performance, a display, a workshop, or something simple and informal. Get in touch via contact@transitionedinburghsouth.org.uk.
