Transition Edinburgh South

Volunteer with us

Would you like to meet new people and work together to find ways to reduce the cost of living in a beautiful garden in South Edinburgh?

We can teach you new gardening and cooking skills and much more besides. Or maybe you can bring a skill that can help us and other volunteers too?

We have regular volunteering sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays between 10am and 2pm and on Friday you can take part in our community lunch too.

Free Community Lunch at Gracemount Mansion Gardens

Every Friday 12.30 to 1.30pm

EVERYONE IS WELCOME

Our Gracemount

Thanks to the University of Edinburgh Community Grants programme for supporting the project ‘Our Gracemount’, working with and the local community, @EdSust and @EdinUniLocal to promote new volunteering opportunities, and to develop the mansion, stable block, community garden and local greenspace. See the Our Gracemount Report for 2021. For more information, follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

Making Change Happen

Transition Edinburgh South (TES) works with local people and community organisations to regenerate greenspaces and community buildings.

We are part of the Transition Movement which is “a movement of communities coming together to reimagine and rebuild our world”.

Investing in Communities

Thanks to funding from the Investing in Communities Fund we have been able to appoint 5 new members of staff: Johnny Smith Project Manager, Richard Whiston Garden Manager, Kirsten Foggo Food and Wellbeing Worker, Rita Budavári Youth and Children’s Worker, and Jane Hartley Development Worker for the Mansion Development Trust.

HELP US PUT ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL

Please spend a pound (or several) by donating to help us repair our walls

The walls create a kind micro-climate. They provide shelter from winds that stunt plant growth and from frosts that shrivel. When painted white, they reflect light. When warmed by the sun, they retain and slowly re-release the heat. But now bits are missing and falling down. Please help us build them back up. The walls are part of a golden virtuous circle that makes the garden the refuge that it is.

VOLUNTEER WITH US

Do you like meeting people and hearing their ideas to develop a much-loved community hub? Come and volunteer with us to help develop the Gracemount Mansion, Community Garden, Stable Block and greenspaces. #OurGracemount.
