"Transition for All" funded by CCF from April 2011 to Mar 2012

So much hectic work is going on this year that there's precious little time to keep the website up to date on any of the detail of what is happening.

An activity which took up much of August was the training of our very own local community volunteers as solar advisors - this means that if you make an appointment with us one of them can come and discuss energy with you and assess whether your home is suitable for a solar PV (electricity generation) or solar thermal (hot water) installation.  We will also tell you if your home is NOT suitable for solar technology.  That's important to know with so many companies trying desperate measures to push their sales.

You can be confident that our volunteer advisors are giving you impartial, no strings advice.  As a transition group we want the best for you and the best for our community sustainability and that's what motivates us.

If your home is suitable we are able to refer you to a reliable local installer whose contract we have reviewed.   We always advise that you get 3 quotes in total from MCS accredited installers. You can register with TES Energy Action here

We have now completed training of our second group of energy and solar advisors with some of our excellent volunteers from the first training assisting in the second training.  The latest government announcements on FITs have somewhat shifted the ground beneath our feet.  However these cuts together with rising energy prices emphasise even more the importance of really understanding the pros and cons of domestic solar installations and the whole host of small behaviour changes and DIY measures householders can take to make their homes more energy efficient and so easier to keep warm through our wet and windy winters!
