DIY Secondary Glazing Video- now online!

Many Edinburgh homes have large, draughty, single-glazed sash and case windows that look great, but let lots of valuable heat out. Double glazing isn't an option for many of us, so we've found a more cost effective solution that works almost as well, and that you can install yourself.

To help you get started, we've created a video - 'DIY Glazing- A Simple Solution for Warmer Windows'. You can watch it online by following this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDQD5QZln1M.

Climate Challenge Fund Community news

Over 10 millions pounds have been given to the new Scottish Government's Climate Challenge Fund (CCF2) to support low carbon community projects.  Over 140 existing projects have reapplied for funding, including TES, and over 250 new community groups have applied for funding for the first time.  At TES, we hope new funding will allow us to continue with the activities that have been initiated or supported by our two funded projects.  We will know by mid-March whether we have been successful in securing further funding.

The Price of Oil

With events in North Africa and the Middle East putting oil in the news recently, it's perhaps time to say a few words about the oil price.

Here's a graph of the movement of the daily oil price (Brent)  over the last 20 years or so.

Oil Price: Daily, Brent
By looking at the annual price over the same time period, we can smooth out some of the fluctuations in the graph as shown in the next plot.

Which Renewable Technology?

OK - so you want to install some renewable technology because you're worried about climate change or peak oil and gas and you want to do your bit.

Sanyo Eco Air Source Heat Pump installation in East Lothian

Remade in Edinburgh community vision and Friday repair sessions from March

On 29th January over 30 people met up at St Augustine's church to create the first community vision for Remade in Edinburgh.

Got an idea for a shop-front + cafe? We're looking for a year's lease on a property on a main road in South Edinburgh whilst we shape up our plans for a more permanent site with workshops.

Egyptian Oil and Natural Gas

Dramatic events are unfolding in Egypt at present. Rather than comment on these, I thought it interesting to look at Egyptian oil and natural gas production in the light of Egyptian peak oil.

Sheep's Heid Social!

It was fantastic to see so many folk along at our Sheep's Heid Social last Saturday! Thanks to everyone who made it along for helping to make it such an enjoyable day, and an extra special thank you to Diane, our new Events Intern, for organising it all.

Coming up soon is our Open Space Day on Saturday February 5th, 2-5pm- a really good chance to find out more about TES's current projects and help to shape what we'll be doing over the next year. Hope to see you there!
