Remade in Edinburgh
Primary tabs
Remade in Edinburgh is a community-led initiative to create a reuse and repair centre in South Edinburgh, encouraging people to learn new skills and keep fixable household items out of landfill. For the most up-to-date information, visit our blog on: http://www.remadeinedinburgh.blogspot.com/.
We hold Coffee, Sewing and Computer Repair sessions at the South Bridge Resource Centre (6 Infirmary Street, EH1 1LT - behind Blackwells). Barring public holidays, these informal drop-in sessions are Friday mornings from 10am to 12pm. Please come and join us - pop in any time for tea and cake, help add to our community banner, and our friendly menders will be on hand to help you mend your clothes and fix your laptop.

From November 2011, we also have fortnightly Monday night sessions at Holy Corner - to start out, we'll be looking at a different challenge for each session, but we'll adapt the sessions to suit the people who come.
These drop in sessions are part of a wider plan to create a reuse and repair centre in central Edinburgh, which would house a series of social enterprises that convert things that would otherwise be thrown away into useful objects. Our wider aim is to train people in new skills and promote zero-waste Edinburgh as an alternative to a culture of cheap, disposable items. The launch, subsequent sessions and publicity are aimed to garner public support and awareness of the scheme and to attract funding and expertise for a long-term establishment.
Encouraged by the huge potential shown by similar centres around the UK and further a field, we hope, in the future, to operate by taking donations and selling the upcycled goods. Repair and reuse projects reduce the amount of waste going to landfill, provide alternatives to incineration and create useful jobs. We believe in quality repairs, making goods affordable, and using everyone's talents.

So, come along and talk to us to help shape this vision and see how you could contribute to our plans. We've got our eye out for more computer menders at the moment, so if you know anyone please let us know.
Looking forward to seeing you! For a monthly newsletter and information on getting involved, please contact us at remadeinedinburgh [at] gmail [dot] com
