Community Mapping
Here at Transition Edinburgh South (TES), we want to support local people to make South Edinburgh a more enjoyable, vibrant and sustainable place to be. That’s why we’ve been running a Community Mapping Project; to find out first hand what you think is needed to make this happen.
Community Mapping was designed to be an effective and fun way to find out about people’s thoughts and promote some neighbourly discussion in the process. For the past six months, we’ve been speaking to residents of South Edinburgh to find out their views on creating meaningful relationships with neighbours, supporting local food production, improving public transport, promoting better recycling and cutting down on energy use in our homes.
We’ve done this through a wide a range of activities, including peer-led community interviews, workshops and focus groups, online surveys and quick engagement activities at public events, as well as speaking to children and young people about what happens in their households through libraries and schools. Roughly 500 people have shared their views and ideas with us and we are very grateful to everyone who has given us their time to contribute to this project.
We are currently in the process of analysing the results and writing up a report which will be published at the end of February 2012. We will be holding a series of Community feed-back meetings throughout March where we will present some of the key findings and try to work collaboratively with you to think about how we can create local changes that will enable us all to work towards sustainability.
More details about the feed-back meetings to follow shortly, watch this space!
