Climate Challenge Funding for the Switched on to Switching off project stage 3
The very good news is that we have just heard that our stage 3 project has been funded for £79.500. Unfortunately we were not funded to set up an Environmental Hub. However, a proposal has been made to our group that CCF would fund an outreach worker for the community in South Edinburgh to promote sustainable living. Read more

Transition Edinburgh South is interested in setting up a community environmental hub that will provide detailed information and support on environmental issues such as home energy efficiency, food and gardening, waste reduction, greener, safer transport and saving water in our local area.Read more

TES Winter Solstice Party Dec 21 6.30 - 9.30

Update: I am afraid we have had to change our plans!!
Very few people signed up to come to the party - so we have cancelled the booking at Christchurch Centre. A much smaller group is however going to meet up .. from 6.30 onwards at Peckhams (155-159 Bruntsfield Place EH10 4DG - next door to Montpeliers) .. in the restaurant part downstairs.

Mike and Helena reach 1000km milestone.
Mike and Helena, two of our members who are cycling from Arran to Athens to raise awareness for Resilience and Transition, reached their 1000km milestone yesterday. They camped near Brévonnes in France, which puts them at 1024.8km.

TES Event - Energy Fair
Our Energy Fair on 5th September at South Morningside Primary School attracted more than a hundredRobin Harper with Pat Abel and Michele Hipwell local residents through the door. Nigel Griffiths, MP, Robin Harper MSP and Mark Lazarowicz, MSP opened the fair It was a lively affair with a local jazz band playing over lunch time, childrens events and lots of advice on how to reduce our energy and on the existing renewables that will take us forward. Fruit Tree Potential!
Apple tree in South EdinburghMembers of the TES food group met tonight at the Arts Complex on London Rd, to discuss how we might map, gather and freely distribute fruit from public fruit trees in South Edinburgh as well as take any surplus apples off the hands of tree owners who don't want to see them go to waste. This would be a project inspired by the incredible success of Abundance Sheffield. Read more
An update from the TES Food Gardens & Trees group
Since the Meadows Festival the group have been exploring possible avenues towards taking on some bigger gardening projects while keeping up the guerrilla gardening.
Balcarres St. allotment garden was looking like a jungle after the rain. A great effort from the team that went down there last Saturday (and many Saturdays before) kept the weeds at bay. The reward was a refreshing assortment of salad leaves and herbs.
On Sunday Sion and Olly took to the streets of South Edinburgh on their bikes in search of Fruit Trees and returned home full of raspberries and with a few more potential food hotspots to add to the map! Read more
