Jobs and Volunteering Opportunities
Right now we don't have any paid roles to recruit for.
However we have lots of activities which people from South Edinburgh can get involved in to help transform our communities - and also give volunteers experience and training which can greatly enhance their employability - the roles listed below are in no way exhaustive, but just give a flavour of the range of things you could help with if you live locally.
For the most recent public information on the project people might wish to refer to the project reports available on this website.
If you're interested in changing things so that we will be able to advertise more paid roles, why not get in touch to find out about seeking funding for support of further projects?

Do you have thoughts on how to make your community more sustainable? Do you want to play a central role in highlighting the needs of your friends and neighbours to a wider audience? Then why not become a Community Mapping Champion?
Here at Transition Edinburgh South (TES), we want to support local people to make South Edinburgh a more enjoyable, vibrant and sustainable place to be. That’s why we’ve started the Community Mapping Project: to find out first hand what people think is needed to make this happen. Community mapping is a fun way to get people’s ideas across and promote some neighbourly discussion in the process.
We are looking for Community Mapping Champions to interview friends about creating meaningful relationships with neighbours, boosting the local economy, what’s needed to make facilities more accessible, and ideas on low carbon living generally. It’s just people chatting to people they know about community and the future.
Community Mapping Champions will gain first hand experience in Action Research and Community Work and be part of an exciting project to identify the needs and aspirations of the community. Training and ongoing support will be provided. No previous experience in research is necessary although it may be an advantage.
You will be required to interview 10 people known to you between September and December 2012.
Training will be held on Saturday 17th September and Saturday 15th October.
Please see attached document below for more information including role descriptor, person specification, training and time commitment.

The Community Singing and Information Exchange Forum is one of TES’ Climate Challenge Fund projects. Singing groups have many benefits and we hope the Community Singing Group and Information Exchange forum will help create a unique opportunity in South Edinburgh for supporting community participation, the forming of new friendships, the development of new and interesting ideas and constructive collaborative relationships. The singing tutor and volunteers make the activities enjoyable, inclusive and a fun creative place to be. As a team you will brainstorm and develop the format and discussion topics for the ideas forum.
Volunteers must be available to participate at least two Thursday evenings per month and to do a bit of planning and promotion over the rest of month.
Please see attached document below for more information including role descriptor, person specification, training and time commitment.

To ensure the safety of our volunteers we would like at least a team of three people of any trip with the ad bike. There will be a minimum commitment of one trip every fortnight consisting of no more than 3 hours on average with possibility of increased hours/trips during busy time or for special events.

Schools Workshops Assistant/Cluster Event Team (Voluntary)
In the next half term TES will be running a series of 3 workshops in a number of primary schools in the Gilmerton/Gracemount area and on Saturday 24th March the schools will come together for a community event. The workshops will be during school time mid-week starting from Monday 20th February and will consist of lots of fun interactive activities for the children to learn more about food and energy use in relation to sustainability. We are looking for a few enthusiastic volunteers to come and help supervise these sessions. Experience in working with children would be great but not essential - the sessions will be led by TES staff and volunteers will be in an assisting role.

We will be running a number of stalls ourselves but will also be hosting a number of invited guests. We are looking for a team of enthusiastic volunteers to help make the day run smoothly. Tasks will include - setting up and packing up at the start/end of the day, making teas/coffees, meeting, greeting, manning the information stand, manning various stalls (energy advice, community mapping feedback, composting).
