TES Event - Energy Fair

Our Energy Fair on 5th September at South Morningside Primary School attracted more than a hundred

Robin Harper with Pat Abel and Michele Hipwell
local residents through the door. Nigel Griffiths, MP, Robin Harper MSP and Mark Lazarowicz, MSP  opened the fair It was a lively affair with a local jazz band playing over lunch time, childrens events and lots of advice on how to reduce our energy and on the existing renewables that will take us forward.

We would like to thank all the people who gave us their time freely and contributed to making this Energy Fair a lively and informative event, including MPs and MPS actively involved in climate change work and all the specialist speakers and stall holders. There was a lot of useful information at the fair, with a good variety of stall holders and speakers but this was also a family event for all to enjoy. Children were very welcomed and participated in the Woodcraft Folks powerpod and  listened to a story teller, face painting and other events. There were also delicious home made cakes and tea, coffee and a great jazz band. A special thank also go to the staff at South Morningside Primary School who were particularly helpful.

The talks were very popular with some reduced to standing room only. Bob Barnham from Changeworks had a lot of people eager to find out what they could do with their own houses to reduce energy and move towards renewables and Prof Bryden of Edinburgh University gave some optimistic indications of how Scotland can move towards a less fossil fuel dependent future. This event was part of the 'Switched on to Switching off' project organised by Transition Edinburgh South and the Edinburgh South Energy Efficiency and was funded by the Climate Challenge Fund, part of the Scottish Government. Members of our community are interested in swapping ideas about energy efficiency. We are also keen to raise awareness about current developments in energy effciency in tenements, including grants available to make our homes more energy efficie
nt.

Taking the project to the streets!

The project is now being taken to the streets as members of the community from Transition Edinburgh and the Edinburgh South Energy Efficiency will visit local residents to find out what has worked well for them in term of energy efficiency and to explore ways to be even more energy efficient this winter.

You might wish to get more involved in our projects - Under the 'Get Involved' section at the top of this website, see the link for the energy group.

Our current work will be of particular interest to residents in Woodburn Terrace and Hope Park Terrace who will be actively involved in our current energy project.

See also the energy link and the blogs for more information about the fair and energy efficiency.
