RSA Animate - Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us

A really interesting (and fun to watch) animated video about what motivates us at home and in the workplace, I think especially relevant considering the nature of TES as a voluntary organisation. Why do busy people with demanding jobs give up their free time to create amazing things? The video outlines some important motivators which I think confirm much of what the Transition movement aspires to. It's good to be reminded we're on the right track in principle at least!

Hi Jamie,  thanks for posting this - it's pretty interesting, especially from a female viewpoint as I doubt many women ever bought into the traditional economic model that the way to measure maximised utility was maximised financial return... it's always been a pretty poor proxy for what matters in life!  However I'm guessing that women as homemakers also do recognise folks have to get enough resource for reasonable physical survival before they can focus properly on the other important aspects of life.  My female/male focus on this is partly related to the fact that the link only played the 2nd half of the video where it seems like largely men are depicted as achieving things and movers and shakers and women as either perifory/marginal or just plain wrong... (economics professor reference).
